A kuripe made from coconut wood has a distinctive look because this material is rarely uniform. You usually see fine, dense “speckling” or an irregular pattern that comes from the palm’s structure. It’s not classic wood with even grain lines like most species - it looks more like a natural mosaic.
Coconut wood is taken from the trunk of the coconut palm, which is why it has a different structure than most familiar woods. It can be quite hard, while its surface may show micro-differences in density - that’s why the pattern is so pronounced. The color most often leans toward warm browns, from lighter to darker, often with contrast within a single piece.
Handmade production means every piece will be slightly different: sometimes the pattern is finer, sometimes more contrasty, sometimes you’ll see calmer areas, sometimes more mottled ones. That’s a feature of the material, not a flaw.
