Description
Copper Pitcher SURAI
100% made of copper
Handcrafted
Country of origin: India
The elegant SURAI copper pitcher with a capacity of 750 ml is not only a designer accent for the kitchen, but above all a daily ritual of drinking water from a copper vessel. Its hand-hammered surface reflects light beautifully, and the classic shape makes the pitcher a great fit for both modern and more traditional interiors.
Why drink water from a copper pitcher?
1. Natural antibacterial properties
Copper has been studied for years for its effects on microorganisms. Studies have shown that storing water in a copper vessel for several hours can significantly reduce the number of bacteria in contaminated water—this is known as the oligodynamic effect.
In practice, this means that water from a copper pitcher may stay fresh longer than water kept in ordinary plastic or glass (although it should still come from a safe source).
2. Ayurvedic tradition – “tamra jal”
In Ayurveda, water stored overnight in a copper vessel (known as tamra jal) is believed to support the body’s balance—traditionally associated with maintaining the balance of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and supporting digestion.
3. Copper as a trace mineral
Copper is an essential trace mineral—adults need about 0.9 mg per day.
Water stored in a copper vessel may contain small amounts of copper ions, although most daily intake typically comes from food (nuts, seeds, cocoa, vegetables). The pitcher can therefore be an addition to a balanced diet, not a replacement for it.
4. No plastic and a better water taste
Water stored in metal does not pick up the “plastic smell” that can be an issue with reusable bottles. For many people, water from a copper pitcher also tastes slightly “softer,” which can encourage drinking more fluids throughout the day.
5. A mindful, aesthetic ritual
A beautiful vessel with a satisfying weight in the hand turns a glass of water from something rushed into a small daily ceremony. It’s a simple way to weave more mindfulness into your day.
How to use the SURAI copper pitcher
-
Fill the pitcher with boiled or filtered drinking water.
-
Leave it for 6–8 hours—traditionally overnight, so you can drink 1–2 glasses of this water in the morning.
-
It’s best to drink the water within 24 hours and then refill the pitcher with fresh water.
-
Do not use the pitcher for acidic drinks (lemon juice, fruit compotes, carbonated beverages, vinegar). Acid can react with copper, forming copper salts, which can be harmful in larger amounts.
