Kuripe made from Cemara Wood
A kuripe made from Cemara wood has a warm brown tone and a fairly even surface. Visually it stays calm, without strong contrasts in the grain. It’s a variant that looks natural and doesn’t impose itself with form - simply a classic wooden tool.
What Cemara wood is
The name “Cemara” is most commonly used in Indonesia and is sometimes a colloquial term for conifer-type trees (often associated with casuarina or species with a similar look and properties). In practice, wood described as Cemara usually has a warm color, a relatively fine structure, and can feel smooth to the touch after finishing. Depending on the batch, it may show subtle color transitions - from honey brown to darker, slightly smoky tones.
How it feels in use
After polishing and sealing, the wood feels pleasant in the hand and doesn’t become “slippery” in a plastic way - it keeps a natural feel. Over time it may darken slightly and settle into a more uniform tone.
Handmade work
Each piece is made by hand, so small differences in shade, grain, and finishing details are possible. With such a calm-looking wood these differences can be subtle, but still visible under light.
